• 7/2/2022 - Hawaii Canoe / Paddling Art Collection
Mark N. Brown loves the Canoe / Paddling community and culture in Hawaii. The Hawaiian canoe is called "wa'a" or water craft and is designed to handle the strong ocean swells. The design of the Hawaiian canoes are unique to the islands, with designs focused more on functionality and is known to have excellent workmanship. In his Canoe artwork collection, Mark N Brown captures the many canoes and beaches that he has seen while traveling around the island. From Kailua to Haleiwa, view Hawaii's canoes from the eyes of a plein air artist.
  • 7/4/2022 - Oahu Market - Chinatown - 2
Inspiration: Being half Chinese in race, my mother would take me to Chinatown in Honolulu, Hawaii to sample the food and culture. Seeing it now as a artist, Oahu's Chinatown is a great buffet for the eyes and senses!
  • 7/11/2022 - Magic Island
Inspiration: Painted on Location at Magic Island Marina. This image had me flirting with stronger, bolder colors, and it made it pretty intense if you got up close, but when you stepped back, it seemed to work.

  • 7/18/2022 - In The Shadows Of Diamond Head
Inspiration: "In the Shadows of Diamond Head" was started as a demo for my Saturday Plein Air class with the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College, I returned another day to finish it and it caught the eyes of surfers who would check on my progress before they went out to get wet. After their surf session, they did double takes to witness the positive progress, of course, the comments were in surf talk, "that is sick" , "that is bad, awesome", "bitching", "you get 'em!", thumbs up in their eyes.

  • 7/25/2022 - Waimea Bay, Hawaii
Inspiration: "Waimea Bay" is probably the smallest version that I have done of this site. Before I used to think that the size of the painting conveyed power, but it has nothing to do with the size. It is being able to lock into the inner strength of a painting, it's mana. In the case of making sure it has strong bones (structure), value and character, I am sure big wave riders can say the same thing about the power of Waimea Bay.
