Our Setting:

Stretching for more than ¾ mile along Oahu's beautiful North Shore, Camp Mokulē‘ia comprises 40 acres of pristine wonder. Only 45 minutes from Honolulu, we are in "the country" at Mokulē‘ia -- with beautiful vistas, a slower pace, welcoming spirit, deep culture, and rich possibilities. Our Lodge and Dining Hall look out upon beautiful Kaiahulu Bay, a secluded home to plentiful sea life including Hawaiian sea turtles and monk seals. Behind us rises 4000 foot Mt. Ka'ala, summit of the Waianae Mountains and accessible through nearby trails. To our west lies exquisite and culturally significant Ka'ena Point, and to our east lies the fun surf town of Haleiwa -- gateway to spectacular North Shore surf breaks, Pu'u O Mahuka Heiau, and famous Waimea Valley.

All-inclusive cost for 5 days & 4 nights workshop is $1,050/person.

A non-painting companion sharing a room is just $350.

Notes from the Artist:

The workshop participants will take advantage of the natural beauty of the Camp Mokule`ia landscape and learn that each scenic spot will teach a different lesson with regards to perspective, drawing, layout, value and color.

For example, when painting looking towards the North Shore Waianae Mountains in the background, we will learn about atmosphere perspective, soft brushwork and cool colors. Also while on the same canvas, we will couple that with drawing, perspective, active broken brushwork and warm colors. As the cabins of Camp Mokule`ia are rendered in the mid-ground, holding that emerging painting together will be the foreground ocean with lessons of reflective cool/blue colors from the sky, along with gestural movement of whitecaps that churns up sand/ warm colors on the shoreline.

With each painting session, another canvas, another teachable moment awaits... -Mark Brown (www.markbrown.com)
