The plein air style of painting gets its name from the French phrase “en plein air,” or “outdoors,” and refers to the act of painting outdoors. With Hawaiʻi's balmy weather and breathtaking scenery, there is no shortage of inspiration for this painting style, and the groups of artists who partake in it. The exhibition opens with a third Friday reception on Friday, November 18, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. - 11/21/2022 - Rainbow Bridge Jumpers
Inspiration: "Rainbow Bridge Jumpers" caught my attention and it's a good thing I was far along on my painting before they started jumping, otherwise it would have distracted me. From where I painted, it made me feel like a judge giving them scores for more daring dives. I caught a stand up paddler going by as they were timid to go by when they were jumping. - 11/28/2022 - Canoes Of Kailua January
Inspiration: Canoes of Kailua was inspired by the paddlers who train daily over the course of the 3 days that I spent on location at Kailua beach.
