  • MARK N. BROWN AVAILABLE ORIGINALS
  • 2 Man Canoe Of Color
Ref. No.: 21813 ** Price: $3300 ** Size: 36" x 48" ** Inspiration: The "2 Man Canoe of Color" caught my eye as a paintable subject because it was dwarfed by all the larger racing canoes in Kailua, Oahu. Although it was smaller, it had a large presence and voice because of the space surrounding it and the other canoes were stacked visually against each other which became a blur, making the smaller one have a loud voice.
  • Ala Moana - Jan 2016
    Ref. No.: 27747 ** Price: $1400 ** Size: 18" x 36" **

  • Ali'i Beach Park
Ref. No.: 24032 ** Price: $1400 ** Size: 18" x 36" ** Inspiration: "Ali'i Beach Park" painting brings back great memories for me as I would do a lot of the graphics and signs for the Triple Crown of Surfing years ago and Ali'i Beach was the site of the 1st jewel of the competition. As I painted it, I saw more than what was in front of me.
  • Alkai Beach/ Seattle
    Ref. No.: 18467 ** Price: $400 ** Size: 12" x 16" **
  • Asian Garden At The Honolulu Museum Of Art
Ref. No.: 23640 ** Price: $SOLD ** Size: 36" x 36" ** Inspiration: The Asian Garden has always been a favorite subject and I obtained permission to paint in the garden from Vince Hazen of the Honolulu Musuem of Art school. I did it in two sittings and I will use this as a springboard to do other paintings in the gardens and the Museum.
  • Aukai Beach 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23480 ** Price: $100 ** Size: 8" x 8" ** Inspiration: "Aukai Beach" was done several years back and was a first for me in the small sized artwork department. This Kahala beach location is a popular spot. I look forward to using this study as a genesis for a larger painting. More...
  • Baby Pounders Surf Spot 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23538 ** Price: $100 ** Size: 8" x 8" ** Inspiration: Baby Pounders is opposite of Pounders beach and is a good surf break to body surf if your out of shape or just want to get wet without dodging waves. I did this mini painting prior to going larger on the Pounders beach painting.
  • Broken Color Of Sherwoods
Ref. No.: 21814 ** Price: $3300 ** Size: 36" x 48" ** Inspiration: Sherwood Forest is in Waimanalo, on the Widward side of Oahu and as I painted this painting en plein air, it was a 3-stake day. As I anchor my large easel with construction stakes pounded in the sand to brave the winds and rain squalls. A 4 stake day tends to have more sand and pine needles from the Ironwood trees in my wet painting, but its a small price to pay to paint from a scene that Dr. Beach rates as one of the top 10 in the nation.
  • Byodo In Valley Of The Temples
    Ref. No.: 18461 SOLD ** Price: $1800 ** Size: 24" x 36" **
  • Canoe Regatta At Heiea Boat Harbor
Ref. No.: 18408 ** Price: $2400 ** Size: 24" x 48" ** Inspiration: When I arrived at Heiea Boat Harbor at Kaneohe Bay, a canoe regatta was starting to set up. I captured the lineup before the paddlers got in, with the Kualoa mountains in the background More...

Ref. No.: 18403 ** Price: $5500 ** Size: 36" x 80" ** Inspiration: Canoes of Kailua was inspired by the paddlers who train daily over the course of the 3 days that I spent on location at Kailua beach. More...
  • Canoes Of Kuliouou
Ref. No.: 23830 ** Price: $600 ** Size: 12" x 24" ** Inspiration: "Canoes of Kuliouou" was done during the day,and it's equally good to paint a nocturne here, as the area is quite a ways from a lit area, so the stars and moon are shining. I read how navigator Nainoa Thompson would test out his celestial navigation by putting lights in the parking lot to align the stars, which drew the curious police. But Nainoa being a natural teacher gave them a good learning lesson on navigation.
  • Chanters 2017
    Ref. No.: 28561 ** Price: $2400 ** Size: 36x36 ** Inspiration: Skilled Hawaiian chanters.
  • Chinaman's Hat 1 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23475SOLD ** Price: $100 ** Size: 5" x 7" ** Inspiration: I created "Chinaman's Hat" as a mini study for the HGTV reality show "Hero's Welcome". It was a warm up to the larger painting that I donated to honor Veteran Tony Woods on Veteran's Day. More...
  • Chinaman's Hat 2 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23486 SOLD ** Price: $100 ** Size: 5" x 7" ** Inspiration: "Chinaman's Hat" was painted at Kualoa Park. The trees had neatly framed the focal point of Mokoli'i and it was begging for me to paint it. Some of the more interesting views were wiped away when the erosion of the sand caused some of the Hala trees to fall in the water. More...

  • Colorful Cliffs Of Makapu'u
Ref. No.: 23637 ** Price: $3300 ** Size: 36" x 48" ** Inspiration: As I painted Colorful Cliffs of Makapu'u, I brought it back to the studio to touch up, and of course, a painting is never done, just abandoned, so I enhanced it. To grow in your painting you have to risk ruining it.
  • Colors of Chinaman's Hat
Ref. No.: 23495 SOLD ** Price: $2800 ** Size: 36" x 36" ** Inspiration: Painting the "Colors of Chinaman's Hat" was done in three sessions on location. On two of the sessions, I was in my analytical artist mind, asking myself what shape, color and value of the object was and on the 3rd session, I let my hair down and just was intuitive and free. Aaaahhhhh, it felt great! More...
  • Dancers In Motion - Jan 2016

  • Diamond Head Dreams (Diamond Head From Kakaako Waterfront Park)
Ref. No.: 20461 ** Price: $600 ** Size: 16" x 20" ** Inspiration: This view overlooking Diamond Head was painted as a class demo for the Plein Air art class of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College. I wanted to teach my students that there is beauty everywhere, even in a industrial area.
  • Diamond Head Playground
Ref. No.: 23841 ** Price: $3800 ** Size: 36" x 60" ** Inspiration: "Diamond Head Playground" was done on location ten years ago on another canvas, which I sold. I went to the same location 2 weeks ago and the trees have grown so I couldn't see Diamond Head. I had to walk out to the Kapahulu groin wall and by going all the way to the end, I could get the similar view. I did a 12" x 24" study and did the larger one in my studio.
  • Fishermen's Wharf Glory (Fisherman's Wharf Restaurant in its Glory Days Location: Kakaako - Honolulu, Hawaii)
Ref. No.: 20462 ** Price: $1000 ** Size: 18" x 24" ** Inspiration: This Fishermen's Wharf painting was the first I did at this location. This place has a lot of history. It is surrounded by a nautical landscape, showing the harbor and other landmarks.

No.: 20459 ** Price: $800 ** Size: 23" round ** Inspiration: This round panel painting was painted as a demo for my University of Hawaii at Manoa Plein Air painting class that meets on Saturday mornings at various locations around the state. Fishermen's Wharf brought back good memories for everyone in my class, some artists even remember having the Turtle Steak.

  • Hala Tree
Ref. No.: 23638 ** Price: $2800 ** Size: 36" x 36" ** Inspiration: The Hala tree painting received a naturalistic style treatment, and it was easy to because of the subtle lighting on the 1st day of a 2-day paint out. But the 2nd day was intense, and revived it with light.
  • Haleiwa Boat Harbor Lineup
Ref. No.: 24031 ** Price: $1400 ** Size: 18" x 36" ** Inspiration: I painted "Haleiwa Boat Harbor Lineup" from the lawn of the Harbor Master's quarters and when I started at 8:00 am the water has a lot of reflections. Then the harbor starts getting active with the mariners and shark encounters that go by every 15 minutes. I just stay calm and steady, full steam ahead.

  • Halona Blow Hole
Ref. No.: 23644 ** Price: $2600 ** Size: 30" x 40" ** Inspiration: Halona was done in one sitting. There were times when the energy was flowing in me from the crashing surf to the rocks and it doesn't stop there, it was as if it was IV'd into my veins and I just transferred it to canvas. I have done ocean scenes before when the surf is small and so was it's presence, but I learn just the same.
  • Hang Gliders View Of Makapu'u
Ref. No.: 21812 ** Price: $3300 ** Size: 36" x 48" ** Inspiration: "Hang Gliders View of Makapu'u" was done Plein Air from the guard rail ramp and lets me have a great vista. I envy the hang gliders that fly overhead , even at my elevation there is much to marvel at. I paint by stepping over the guardrail onto a little grassy platform which gives me a little space between the busloads of tourists that want photos of the area and me painting away .
  • Hidden Kualoa
Ref. No.: 23839 ** Price: $1000 ** Size: 12" x 36" ** Inspiration: "Hidden Kualoa" was painted on a day when I had a lot of patience. When your painting the grays of the mountain when it's in shadow, then when the light opens the sky and shines on the mountain, it's as if nature was saying to me "Is that all the color you've got?" But its good to keep your cool and droll out a little color at a time, to honor nature and my patience.

  • Hula Girls Up Next
Ref. No.: 18460 ** Price: $3300 ** Size: 36" x 48" ** Inspiration: Hula Girls in Waiting has been grooming in my vision for awhile. I have been drawing from nude figurative models for over 20 years, and it's easier to paint a landscape, because of the lighting but I enjoy the behind the scenes look as performers set to hit the stage.
  • In The Shadows Of Diamond Head
Ref. No.: 21811 ** Price: $2800 ** Size: 30" x 40" ** Inspiration: "In the Shadows of Diamond Head" was started as a demo for my Saturday Plein Air class with the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College, I returned another day to finish it and it caught the eyes of surfers who would check on my progress before they went out to get wet. After their surf session, they did double takes to witness the positive progress, of course, the comments were in surf talk, "that is sick" , "that is bad, awesome", "bitching", "you get 'em!", thumbs up in their eyes.
  • Into The Eye Of Makapu'u
Ref. No.: 21943 ** Price: $3300 ** Size: 36" x 48" ** Inspiration: Into the eye of Makapu'u was done totally on location, and with the help of sightseers who would stop by and ask to take a photo with me, I respond by putting a brush in their hand as they pose in action like they are painting along with me, as their spouse takes the photo, I try to step out of the photo to let them take control, and have the show to themselves, but most times, they want me alongside them, and they and I get a kick out of it, in one case, a women visitor starting painting on my painting , easily fixed, but Into the eye of Makapu'u I enjoyed painting the cliffs as evidenced by the thick application of paint, very juicy

Ref. No.: 23838 ** Price: $1000 ** Size: 15" x 30" ** Inspiration: I painted "Kaaawa Beach" when the neighbor elementary school was having a excursion day there, so there was a lot of excitement in the air. The kids would call out, "Hi Mr. Artist!"

  • Kailua Beach Canoe
Ref. No.: 23492 ** Price: $3300 ** Size: 36" x 48" ** Inspiration: "Kailua Beach Canoe" was done out of sympathy for the small dwarfed canoe among the sleek giant racing canoes. What it lacked in size was made up with character as the rigging and it's hull told a nice story. Being close to Christmas, it reminded me of how Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer might have felt when he was not invited to play. More...

Elaine is a artist with a flair for painting and decorating. Their house is a dream home and every corner has her magic touch. Bob is a engineer and has made incredible features in the home. Once, while house-sitting for them, I boasted to Elaine over the phone that I had done 10 laps in their pool, I later learned that Bob does 100 laps 3 times a week! The painting was done in three sessions and when I got overheated, I just dove in the pool to cool off. More...

  • Kaiser Bowls Friday
Ref. No.: 23635 SOLD ** Price: $2800 ** Size: 30" x 40" ** Inspiration: I enjoy painting at Kasier Bowls because of the activity in the area, and not always in the water. Despite the distractions, I tend to focus more on my work as everything else becomes white noise. Usually there is a color note of red with Mondo's Catamaran anchored just offshore, but he is leasing it to another company for now.
  • Kalama Beach
Ref. No.: 24038 ** Price: $1600. ** Size: 24" x 36" ** Inspiration: "Kalama Beach" is a spot where I learned to body surf. Ref. No.: 20463 ** Price: $2800 ** Size: 24" x 36" ** Inspiration: I painted this right in front of the showers for the surfers as they paraded by after their surf session. • Koko Head Nocturne
Ref. No.: 21815 ** Price: $5500 ** Size: 48" x 60" ** Inspiration: Koko Head was painted in full sunlight during a summer day and changed in the studio into a night painting as the moon appeared in one of the 2 sessions as I was finishing up my plein air work. There was a City & County of Honolulu maintenance crew at Kuliouou Park named Les was always an encouraging presence when he would take care of the grounds. His son was in the arts, and Les wanted to paint in my class when he retired. The fishermen would wade onto the tide pools for tako (squid) and most times reminded me of myself when I paint, like fishing was a singular pursuit.
  • Kona Surf
Ref. No.: 24037 ** Price: $800 ** Size: 12" x 16" ** Inspiration: "Kona Surf" was inspired by Lahaina Galleries as they entertained the idea of having me work with them at their Big Island Gallery supplying paintings. • Kualoa Cliffs
Ref. No.: 21944 ** Price: $2800 ** Size: 30" x 40" ** Inspiration: When I painted Kualoa Cliffs , the mountains are always competing for my attention from Chinamen's hat , or what is called in Hawaiian Mokoli'i which is direct opposite of Kualoa mountains, as a painter you can get lost visually and imaging yourself scaling the cliffs, but easier by car,as we get occasionally assess to the valley and enjoy painting in areas that movies such as Jarasick park, and Godzilla are shot, the tranquility of the valley is broken by the sound of atv's tours as they explore what is pasture land it's still a joy to paint !

  • Lilipuna view of Kaneohe
Ref. No.: 21810 ** Price: $3300 ** Size: 36" x 48" ** Inspiration: Painting from the hilltop of Lilipuna Drive on the Windward side of Oahu affords me great sweeping views of Kanohe Bay and the Ko'olau Mountain Range. I did this Plein Air painting in two sessions, one of the range and the landscape, and then positioning my easel and canvas to take in the palm trees to include them in my artwork.
  • Little Kailua Beach Canoe 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23479 ** Price: $100 ** Size: 5" x 7" ** Inspiration: The "Little Kailua Beach Canoe" was done out of sympathy for the smaller canoe that was dwarfed by it's large sleek fellow racing canoes alongside it. Being close to Christmas, it's something liken to how Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer must have felt like, when nobody asked him to come out and play. More...
  • Looking Towards The Pali
Ref. No.: 24039 ** Price: $800 ** Size: 16" x 20" ** Inspiration: I painted "Looking Towards The Pali" during an overcast day and then left it in my studio. I just recently took it out and repainted it to satisfy myself of it's potential. I came away pleased.
  • Magic Island Night 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23483 ** Price: $150 ** Size: 8" x 10" ** Inspiration: "Magic island Nocturne" was inspired by the lights that reflect on the waters off Magic Island near Ala Moana Beach Park. After working on 5" x 7" mini's, doing an 8" x 10" was large but it's great to use a large brush to get the paint on the canvas, then use a smaller one to work the edges. More...

  • Makapu'u Beach
Ref. No.: 23491 ** Price: $3300 ** Size: 36" x 48" ** Inspiration: Makapu'u Beach painting was done on location in four sittings. As I progress in my painting, I tend to take more time and I slow down. This painting years ago would have been done in one sitting but I wanted to have more depth and not just have the gesture, but the detail as well. More...

  • Mini Tantalus 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23481 ** Price: $100 ** Size: 6" x 6" ** Inspiration: "Mini Tantalus" was inspired by the awesome view from this round top location. I had also done several larger paintings from up there. Going small is great training for a painter because it forces you to condense your thoughts and speak clearly with your brush. As they say, "announce your words." More...
  • Mokuli'i In The Shadow Of The Pali
Ref. No.: 23840 ** Price: $1000 ** Size: 12" x 36" ** Inspiration: As I start painting the B side of the island, I painted "Mokuli'i In The Shadow of the Pali" and was inspired and owe tribute to a great painter, Dennis Morton. He did a similar layout. Dennis was a 10-year apprentice to nationally known portrait artist, Richard Whitney. Dennis first exposed me to the valley of Kauloa Ranch and he did some Hercules-like paintings that are still ingrained in my brain. Awesome painter. Last I heard, he paints in Kauai and goes back and forth to Conn. Thanks Dennis!
  • Na Pali O' Ko'olau
Ref. No.: 23832 ** Price: $400 ** Size: 11" x 14" ** Inspiration: "Na Pali O' Ko'olau" (The Cliffs of the Ko'olau) was learned to me by doing the winning masthead design for Castle High School that was the title of the school newspaper. The pali is hard to miss but sometimes it's easy to as it gets shrouded in the mist.
  • North Shore 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23477 ** Price: $100 ** Size: 6" x 6" ** Inspiration: This "North Shore" painting was done from the same spot where I did "A Lazy Day in Hale'iwa", an artwork for the 2002 Hale'iwa Art Festival poster. This artwork carries the same feel. More...
  • North Shore Kiawe
Ref. No.: 24030 ** Price: $1400 ** Size: 18" x 36" ** Inspiration: "North Shore Kiawe" has been a painting series that I have enjoyed. The painting I did of the scene in 2002 became the poster and T-shirt for the Haleiwa Arts Festival.
  • Oahu Market - Chinatown - 2
Ref. No.: 18400 ** Price: $1400 ** Size: 24" x 30" ** Inspiration: Being half Chinese in race, my mother would take me to Chinatown in Honolulu, Hawaii to sample the food and culture. Seeing it now as a artist, Oahu's Chinatown is a great buffet for the eyes and senses! More...
  • Olapa Sandy's
Ref. No.: 23843 ** Price: $5500 ** Size: 36" x 80" ** Inspiration: "Olapa Sandy's" was painted in 4 sessions on the mid zone of Sandy Beach where surfing is permitted. Usually in the break, only bodysurfing is allowed but either way, they both get my respect. Olapa is used in Hawaiian Hula, as "in the style of" and the parade of warriors of men/boys, women/girls that take on the shore break is awesome!
  • Olomana Of Windward Oahu
Ref. No.: 18402 SOLD ** Price: $1000 ** Size: 18" x 24" ** Inspiration: Olomana of Windward Oahu was painted from the Heiau of Kawainui marsh, because of the remoteness of this vantage point of one of Mount Olomana three peaks, I can identify with the hikers that attempt this hill. More...
  • Olomana, Hawaii - April 2015
Ref. No.: 23842 ** Price: $2800 ** Size: 36" x 36" ** Inspiration: "Olomana" was painted in 3 sittings. The first time, I was blown off the area by a series of strong winds. The group of women exercising (stroller strides) was seeing if I would stick it out, but we all left and I returned after getting my layout in. I used to pride myself on trying to finish in one sitting "Alla Prima", but I took the pressure off myself. Fellow Plein Air artist Mark Norseth would tell me, "Who says it has to be done in one sitting?" He was right. I also remember some of the laid back guys in high school would say "taaakkkeee ittt eeeaaasssyyyy!"

  • Pu'uikena beach
Ref. No.: 23493 ** Price: $5500 ** Size: 36" x 80" ** Inspiration: I did "Pu'uikena Beach" on location in 4 - 5 hour sessions and was inspired by turn of the century artist John Singer Sargent's "Shell Gather's" painting. Some of the days the water tide was higher so I just worked the upper part of the painting. But when the tide was low, it was a feast for the eye's and brush. More...

  • Punahou Chapel 2017
Ref. No.: 28567 ** Price: $2600 ** Size: 30x40 ** Inspiration: I did the painting of the Punahou School Chapel on location at the Manoa campus. I have done several versions of this and the most fun I had doing it was when I did a demo for the Rainbow and Koi class (Kindegarten and 1st graders).

Ref. No.: 23639 SOLD ** Price: $2800 ** Size: 36" x 36" ** Inspiration: I did the painting of the Punahou School Chapel on location at the Manoa campus. I have done several versions of this and the most fun I had doing it was when I did a demo for the Rainbow and Koi class (Kindegarten and 1st graders). I started the painting with paper towels instead of brushes and it sold at the Punahou carnival 2014.

  • Queens Beach Waikiki - 3
Ref. No.: 18409 ** Price: $2800 ** Size: 30" x 40" ** Inspiration: Queen's Beach in Waikiki makes for a great focal point with the big Banyan tree which is a hub of activity. • Rainbow Bridge Jumpers
Ref. No.: 24033 ** Price: $1400 ** Size: 18" x 36" ** Inspiration: "Rainbow Bridge Jumpers" caught my attention and it's a good thing I was far along on my painting before they started jumping, otherwise it would have distracted me. From where I painted, it made me feel like a judge giving them scores for more daring dives. I caught a stand up paddler going by as they were timid to go by when they were jumping.
  • Rainbow Bridge Of Haleiwa

  • Red Hibiscus
Ref. No.: 23831 ** Price: $600 ** Size: 12" x 16" ** Inspiration: Painting "Red Hibiscus" reminded me of how a winning poem of mine in 4th grade won me a Hibiscus plant that my mom, Nancy, cared for and in a short time was transplanted out in the yard and bloomed flowers. Then I learned about caterpillars and butterflies! Awesome.
  • Regal Kualoa
Ref. No.: 23837 ** Price: $1000 ** Size: 15" x 30" ** Inspiration: "Regal Kualoa" refers to when in ancient Hawaii, sailing canoes would pass before the mountains of Kualoa and would dip their sales to honor the gods of Kualoa. When I stare at the mountains, I can see why the power was bestowed on them.
  • Sandy Beach / Blowhole 1
Ref. No.: 23835 ** Price: $800 ** Size: 16" x 20" ** Inspiration: On the day I painted "Sandy Beach/Blowhole", the spouting waves from the blowhole was going off and even from my distance, I could feel the ebb and flow of the tide from where I stood. It was humbling to feel its power.
  • Sharks Cove
Ref. No.: 24029 ** Price: $1400 ** Size: 18" x 36" ** Inspiration: "Sharks Cove" was painted in July, during high tourist season. It was low tide in the cove bringing everyone out. I started this painting at 8:00 am and there were 5 snorkelers. By the time I ended my painting session, there were maybe 200 waders!
  • Sherwood Forest Waimanalo Bay 1
Ref. No.: 23498 ** Price: $5500 ** Size: 36x80 ** Inspiration: "Sherwood Forest Waimanalo Bay" is one of a series of paintings I have done from that location. I like that as a artist, if you read the signs correctly then there are lead-ins to a painting like a railroad track to a destination. Dr. Beach rates this beach nationally as one of the top ten beaches. Sherwood Forest was also used as a backdrop for the movie "Princess Kaiuilani". More...
  • Showtime At Baby Makapu'u
Ref. No.: 24036 ** Price: $1000 ** Size: 20" x 24" ** Inspiration: 'Showtime At Baby Makapu'u" was painted as a demo for the Plein Air Class at the University of Hawaii Outreach College. It is a non-credit class that I have been teaching since year 2000. I do a demo from 8:00 am to 9:00 am and show my fellow artists how I would tackle the scene. I have learned so much by instructing this class. I use a good saying, "When one teaches, two learn".
  • Stormy Day At Makapu'u Beach
Ref. No.: 18406 ** Price: $5500 ** Size: 48" x 60" ** Inspiration: Stormy day at Makapu'u Beach was done during the worst storm that even body surfers wouldn't go out. But it was the perfect because of the energy it created for this painting inspired by the strong breaks overlooking Makapu'u Beach in Waimanalo. More...
  • Surf Session At Ala Moana
Ref. No.: 24028 ** Price: $1400 ** Size: 18" x 36" ** Inspiration: "Surf Session at Ala Moana" was painted on location and gave me a chance to capture a sense of place with Diamond Head and a lifestyle painting with the surfers, joggers, bikers, and swimmers who would walk the scene. I started the painting in the morning and took a lunch break then came back and worked into the afternoon and evening. I took the sunset colors and put them in the sky. During the summer there was more activity with the people in the evening. It was awesome!
  • Surfer At Sandys Beach 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23484 SOLD ** Price: $100 ** Size: 5" x 7" ** Inspiration: Surfer at Sandy Beach" was done prior to me doing a 36," x 80" door panel of Sandy Beach. • Tahitian Dancers 2 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23490 ** Price: $100 ** Size: 5" x 7" ** Inspiration: This 2nd version of the Tahitian Dancers captured the excitement as well. I want to match the energy that is produced as they dance with the strong drumbeat. More...
  • Tamashiro Market
Ref. No.: 23643 ** Price: $1400 ** Size: 24" x 36" ** Inspiration: Standing opposite of Tamashiro Market on King Street, I painted this painting in 2 sessions. I recorded all the information with my brush but I needed to enhance it in the studio. I also needed to unify by graying it, and as I did, it would age the painting or dumb it down (that's a good thing) because Tamashiro
  • The 2 Birds Of Waimea Canyon
Ref. No.: 24040 ** Price: $800 ** Size: 16" x 20" ** Inspiration: "The 2 Birds of Waimea Canyon" was a enjoyable time when fellow artist and retired Colonel Guy Ballou would take Spencer Chang, John Dixon and myself to Kauai and we just painted for 3 to 4 days. Guy, because of his military service, would get us sweet deals at the Barking Sands Installation and we were with 15 minutes of the Canyon. Guy would assign everyone to a detail. I was in charge of finding good painting sites. Spencer handled directions and driving duties and John provided logistics. Guy kept us current and on schedule. When we arrived at the cabins, we drew straws for sleeping arrangements and we were a well oiled machine. Great times, thank you Guy!
  • Three Tables
Ref. No.: 24035 ** Price: $1000 ** Size: 15" x 30" ** Inspiration: "Three Tables" is another favorite site for me to paint at the North Shore. I can get away from the crowds but the beach offers a lot in the way of eye candy. Great crashing shoreline, light and shadow and gestures in the way of active people.
  • Three Tables At Pupukea 3
Ref. No.: 23834 ** Price: $1000 ** Size: 15" x 30" ** Inspiration: "Three Tables" is an area I liken to the wild North Shore. It has a power to it, but it also has a quiet nature. It's a great place to chill when the other well-known areas are maxed out with people. A good place to paint.
  • Tidepools 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23482 SOLD ** Price: $150 ** Size: 8" x 10" ** Inspiration: "Tide Pools" was done from Baby Makapu'u Beach Park or locally called Cockroach Bay. The tide pools are great for families with small children. The surf may be raging at nearby Makapu'u, but it's easy peasy at Baby Makapu'u and a great focal point to paint. More...
  • Tongan Choir
Ref. No.: 23641 ** Price: $3300 ** Size: 36" x 48" ** Inspiration: I witnessed the Tongan Choir performing at the Kapiolani Bandstand and the colors the singers wore matched the quality of their voices in unison. I did this painting from a photo reference I took.
  • Tree Of Comfort 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23539 ** Price: $100 ** Size: 6" x 6" ** Inspiration: Tree of comfort is a painting that I did as a warmup before I tackled a 48" x 60" larger painting of the tree and the Pali Cliff in the background, it s work still in progress.
  • Ulu Pono Heiau
Ref. No.: 24041 ** Price: $800 ** Size: 16" x 20" ** Inspiration: "Ulu Pono Heaiu" is located next to the Kailua YMCA and I remember passing by numerous time. I finally got a chance to paint there and I pay tribute to a group of volunteers who maintain the place and make it what it is today. Mahalo!
  • Use The Mokes To Guide You
Ref. No.: 23829 ** Price: $600 ** Size: 16" x 20" ** Inspiration: "Use The Mokes To Guide You" was done on a hill top from a great vantage point. I could see all the yellow kayaks paddling away trying to reach the mokes and the wind was doing its best to prevent them. They were using a paddle and all I had was brush, so it was easier for me.
  • Volley Ball Day At Waimea Bay
Ref. No.: 18407 ** Price: $5500 ** Size: 36" x 80" ** Inspiration: Volley ball day at Waimea Bay is on Wednesday's and I happen to be there with a door panel and my easel. Great youthful energy captured at Waimea Bay at the North Shore. More...

  • Waihole Valley 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23537 SOLD ** Price: $100 ** Size: 8" x 8" ** Inspiration: Waihole valley is on the Widward side that has a lot of scenic areas to paint from. I try to use the Waihole Poi Factory to give directions from as landmarks, but as a painter, the Kualoa mountains are the biggest landmark that is easily seen on a clear day.
  • Waikiki Beach 2014 Miniature Hawaii Art Image
Ref. No.: 23485 ** Price: $100 ** Size: 5" x 7" ** Inspiration: "Waikiki Beach" has to be viewed from a distance in order for it to come together visually. It's a lot of information to put on a small canvas but I don't want to reach for a small brush. There's a lot of energy going on at the beach and using a small brush would only diffuse that power. • Wailua Pioneer Farms Sunflower Field
Ref. No.: 23496 SOLD ** Price: $3300 ** Size: 36x48 ** Inspiration: Painting the Wailua Pioneer Farms Sunflowers was done in two sessions out of a need to capture the scene before the sunflowers wilted and were plowed under. The sunflowers only would bloom during a 3-week period and I thank Pioneer Farms and fellow artist Nani for coordinating our artist visit. Being the artist with the most experience, Nani and Linh Tang deferred to me. Should we paint up close or from far? I choose from afar, and did the mountains in the background with the Sunflowers in the mid ground. I later second guessed myself because I reasoned that the mountains would always be there, but not the Sunflowers. But when I returned for my 2 session, I got up close and personal to the Sunflowers and it all fell into place with this painting. More...
  • Waimanalo, Hawaii - April 2015
Ref. No.: 23836 ** Price: $1000 ** Size: 15" x 30" ** Inspiration: I painted "Waimanalo" when Martin Pahinui was being interviewed about 50 yards in front of me about 2 weeks ago. It was probably for his dad's (Gabby Pops Pahinui) celebration which is today, 4/25/2015. A celebration to honor Gabby at Waimanalo Beach Park with other entertainers. I sometimes sing a song that he liked to sing, "I'm living on easy, with a bottle of whiskey, I have no money to suit my honey." Ahhh the life of an artist!
  • Waimea Bay
Ref. No.: 24034 ** Price: $1400 ** Size: 18" x 36" ** Inspiration: "Waimea Bay" is one of my favorite painting spots and the lifeguards are the best! There's Mark and Carrie and they walk the sand to keep in shape for winter rescues. The bay that day was calm, and the tree that fronts the tower has Mark's decorative touches with ornaments and a Santa hat. I used this in the painting that decorates the Hawaiian Isle Kona Coffee Christmas bags that come on store shelves in October thru December.
  • Waimea Bay, Hawaii - April 2015
Ref. No.: 23833 ** Price: $400 ** Size: 11" x 14" ** Inspiration: "Waimea Bay" is probably the smallest version that I have done of this site. Before I used to think that the size of the painting conveyed power, but it has nothing to do with the size. It is being able to lock into the inner strength of a painting, it's mana. In the case of making sure it has strong bones (structure), value and character, I am sure big wave riders can say the same thing about the power of Waimea Bay.
